Ohio Teacher Gets Community Control for Sex with Student

Alexa Nasonti, a 25-year-old former art teacher at Norwalk High School in Norwalk, Ohio, who pleaded guilty in August to sexual battery for engaging in sexual conduct with a teen boy, has been sentenced to three years of community control and ordered to register as a Tier 3 sex offender every 90 days for the rest of her life.

The investigation of the case began after Nasonti was found with the boy on April 2 at 9 p.m. in a parked car at Lion’s Park near the Margaretta School District Board of Education Office. Hundreds of texts between a Norwalk teacher and her student led to criminal and administrative investigations as the messages hinted that there was sexual conduct between the two at a home in Bellevue on March 31.

Nasonti pleaded not guilty to a single count of sexual battery during an arraignment hearing in Sandusky County in June and She was released on a personal recognizance bond. Two months later she pleaded guilty to sexual battery for engaging in sexual conduct with the 17-year-old boy at her home in Bellevue. The sexual battery conviction is a third-degree felony.
According to documents, she started out counseling a student who was having girlfriend problems and they started texting and it evolved to the point where teacher and student had sexual intercourse.

Nasonti, who had a clean criminal record prior to the offense, apologized and showed remorse for her actions. If Nasonti violates the terms of the community control, she could face 12 months in prison.

Sandusky County Prosecutor Thomas Stierwalt ushed for jail time at the urging of the victim's family due to alleged contact between Nasonti and victim during the court process. Nasonti's mother said the victim had tried to contact Nasonti through Nasonti's sister.
