Security Worker Accused of Sex With Juvenile

Julie McCormick, 31-year-old former security worker at the Department of Juvenile Corrections facility in Nampa, Idaho has been charged with lewd conduct with a 15-year-old boy for alleged sex acts  inside the juvenile detention center where she worked.

McCormick was charged with felony lewd conduct with a child under the age of 16 on Friday in Canyon County's 3rd District Court. A statement from the Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections said she was fired from her job at the Juvenile Corrections Center-Nampa in August after seven years with the department. The detention center is designed to house about 84 male and female juveniles between the ages of 13 and 20.

The department did not say if the investigation came as a result of allegations raised in a whistleblower lawsuit brought by a group of current and former department employees. The whistleblowers contended that administrators failed to take action when juveniles inappropriately touched other juveniles, and that at least two female employees were involved in sexual relationships with juvenile offenders in their custody.

The Nampa police comfirmed that a warrant has been issued. Investigators are looking into the inappropriate acts and whether there were any other young victims. Someone  inside the center noticed the teen in surveillance video, in areas he wasn't allowed in. McCormick was meeting the boy inside her office, and the reports show they had sex three times.  "The intercourse, it appears did take place, according to the probable cause affidavit, in her office, while he was housed there", said deputy prosecuting attorney Erica Kallin. Kallin says this is not only a sensitive case, but a serious one. McCormick is charged with lewd conduct with a child under 16. She turned herself in to police.

The affidavit went on to say that McCormick even had the 15-year-old's initials tattooed on her neck. She has no previous criminal history.
McCormick is now being held on a $200,000 bond.

A tort claim was filed by the victim’s attorney Wednesday against IDJC director Sharon Harrigfeld, IDJC Nampa superintendent Betty Grimm, the Idaho Secretary of State and the Office of the Idaho Attorney General.
The claim alleges that the victim — an unidentified 15-year-old male incarcerated in the Nampa Juvenile Detention Center’s mental health unit — suffered emotional and personal distress as a result of “statutory rape, lewd and lascivious conduct, sexual battery, neglect and other acts and omissions committed by employees of the state of Idaho.”
