Kaitlin Grant Sentenced to 6 Years of Probation

Kaitlin Grant, 23-year-old former substitute teacher at Freeport High School, Freeport, New York, who was arrested last March for an alleged sexual relationship with a 15-year-old female student, has been ordered to register as a level 1 sex offender and sentenced to 6 years of probation.

Grant was arrested and charged with criminal sexual act and endangering the welfare of child. Teacher and the female victim performed sex acts on each other and “engaged in a sexual relationship” from November 2011  through March 2012, accordingto  a statement. Grant pleaded guilty in October to sexual misconduct, a misdemeanor.

According to police, someone in the victim's family learned of the relationship through social media and alerted officials. All meetings between Grant and the student took place outside the school and not on school grounds.

Kaitlin Grant was a star basketball player at Elmont Memorial High School. She was named to the All-Long Island second team in 2005-2006 as a senior. She later played for Loyola University in Maryland, where she was named most valuable player as a junior in 2008-2009.
