High School Teacher Arrested in Student Sex Case

Chaarie Lynne Jaramillo, 35-year-old teacher from Granger High School, Salt Lake City, Utah, has been accused of having a sexual relationship with a teen male student nearly 10 years ago, when she taught at Northridge High.

Chaarie Jaramillo was arrested at the school, 3690 S. 3600 West. for having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student for over a year, between 2003 and 2004. The victim is now a 26-year-old adult. He came to police last February, claiming he was sexually assaulted by a female teacher when he was 17 and the teacher was 25. According to police, there was no evidence that sexual contact happened in the school. The illegal activity was believed to have happened at a couple of locations, including in Clinton and Layton. Jaramillo resigned as a teacher at Northridge in 2010 and began teaching at Granger in West Valley. She taught psychology and sociology at Northridge.

Investigators are trying to determine if there were any other victims. Granite District spokesman Ben Horsley said investigators did not believe there were any victims at Granger. Both Northridge and Granger officials say Jaramillo has a reputation as a great teacher. Granger School officials say there have been no reports of student/teacher assault at their school.

After her arrest Chaarie Jaramillo was placed on administrative leave.
